G Manipulation Award: Natalie. You had one serve where you modified G so it pulled the ball down so fast that it bounced before the libero could get it and it ricocheted off of her head. Then in another point, you hit a ball and turn OFF G so it rolled UP the net and over.

Best Court Awareness Award: Rylee. You were in the back row. Our front row outside was in the middle of the court, covering a tip, which was picked up, but shanked to the front left, somehow you saw it happening and raced over there to give our team another shot at the point.
Levitation Award: Sophie, you jumped a smidge too early, and you realized it because as you were coming down from your jump, then they hit the ball… but you floated in air juuust long enough to put up a block!
Unbreakable Award: Sarah for continuing to put up great sets even after the ref called your hands.
Bowling Ball Award: Natalie for serving heavy balls
Opposite Tack Sharp Passing : Tess for putting together runs of perfect passes from the right side
Best Imitation of a Push Tack: Halle for tack-sharp passing of setter pushes
Perfect “My Bad” Pass: Sofia. The 1st ball was shanked and you made a perfect pass, high-middle-middle right to Halle who top-spinned-free-balled it over.
Ace Hardware Award: Rylee for tooling a block for a point
Best Back Sets: Diggy. Your back sets are so good, that I still have trouble following them.
Anti-Freeze Award: Addison: for no matter how many times they tried to freeze you, you were impervious. Runners up Natalie and Jamie.
Effort Award: Rylee was in coverage, the ball was tipped short, which she passed over the net, they thought there was an opportunity to push it deep, but Rylee saw it unfold and picked up the attempt with her hands so we could run our offense. So. Awesome!
Best Imitation of Tacking: Halle. The winds were against us, but your passing kept us going in the direction that we wanted to go in.
Best Off Hand Hit: Sophie for hitting a ball down… lefty inside of 4 feet for a clean winner
Bulls Eye Award: Halle for dropping an ace right on their back line
Best 1-2 Combination: Annika and Sarah: Annika hits back the overpass, but they overpass it again and then Sarah hits -that- one back, and again they overpass it and that’s when Annika had enough and puts it away!
Best H.O.R.S.E. shot: Sarah for racing in to cover a super tight pass, uses her forearms to bounce a ball off of the net and up to Sophie to hit the ball.
Strong Strong Serving: Everyone. Seriously, just freaking awesome!

-1 Award: Sarah for doing the opposite of what I said. “Serve it hard and deep” so of course, she serves, hits the top of the net and lands on the 1 FOOT LINE in position 4. For an Ace. I had to apologize to the other coach…
Parting of the Red Sea Award: Tess for serving the ball so hard that the passers on the receiving team all shied away from the ball!
Best Bob the Builder Impression: Addison for putting up a roof to block a ball.
Knocking Down Bridges Award: Addison, Annika and Sarah(!) for hitting back overpasses.
Spic and Span Award: Diggy for super clean sets.
Level Award: Jamie for very consistent passing.
Mariana Trench Award: Rylee for super deep angle and super deep court hits. This is great, keep it up as it puts constant pressure on their defense.
y=mx+b Award: Sofia for hitting line for a point!
3 Meter Springboard Award: Halle for making those diving, sprawling saves! Those saves were critical to keeping our team in the game and to allow our team to apply constant, relentless pressure.
6 Pack Award: Sophie for hitting the hardest middle hit.
What Just Happened?!? Award: Diggy for setting a backset that was so good that I couldn’t follow it for a second! Great job for spreading the offense around!
Best Impression of a Tack: Halle for Tack Sharp passing. It isn’t the spectacular saves that you make that keep us in the majority of points, it is the routine passes that give our setters options and flexibility with our offense. It All Starts With A Pass.
Best Out of System Sets: Diggy and Sarah. Each of you had several sets where the passes took you 10+ feel off of the net. In these cases you made your decisions and set up high sets in positions where our players could do something with them.
Best Get The Heck Out The Way Award: Everyone who isn’t a setter! I think we had… maybe 1? play where the ball was taken from the setter. This shows a true maturation of us as a team.
Pinball Award: Natalie, you served a ball so hard, that it bounced off of passer with such pace that it clunked the passer next to her..
Squeezing Out of a Tight Situation Award: Jamie for hitting a super tight set over the net. It was an incredibly difficult shot and you made it look easy.
Spine Award: Tess, while in the Back Row, hitting a Back set.
Quality-Quality Serves: Everyone. Really. Total Quality Serving game today. Just Wow.
Best Magnus Effect Serves: Jamie for hitting top spin serves.
It’s Cold Outside… NOT: Our outsides today were On Fire with your passing, coverage, transitioning and hitting.
Best Going Backwards hit: Annika for tracking back a ball and hitting it over the net.
Ducks in a Row: All of our servers. We had too many players who went on serving runs. Granted that their service reception wasn’t the strongest, but y’all launched strong, quality serves.

Best Bowling Award: Addison for hitting a ball that knocked the 3 defenders down

Rock of Gibraltar Award: Rylee, for being my constant rock that the team can depend on.

Best No Look Pass: Haylee, that ball was 100% past you, but you read it, completely turned around, got your platform out and made a perfect pass.  Wow, just wow.

Best Alto Hit: Annika for hitting the ball deep into the court for a point

Mariano Rivera Award: Tess and Halle for winning the sets with aces or strong serves!  Way to close out the sets.

Final word: Good playing yesterday.  We saw many improvements from the last tri-match.  Again, remember your successes for that’s how you really will grow.

DIVE OF TOURNAMENT: Ally. Hands down, best dive. Just incredible. No question. The ref, came over and gave you compliments. This does not happen very much.

Best Imitation of a gust of wind: Charlotte serve moved so much that when it reached the passer, she squeezed her eyes shut as the ball hit her. She didn’t pass the ball, the ball bounced off of her.

Best Concrete Protractor Award: Caroline for getting up and hitting hard angle.

Best Imitation of a Waitress: Cadence for a tip kill down the line.

Anti Gravity Award: Addison, nothing drops.

Best Deep Corner 5 Points: Francesca for hitting deeeeep left corner.

Best use of the Confundus Charm: Caroline for serving the ball with such deception that they got confused and couldn’t pass.

Best Line Serves: Ally for hitting top spin serves down the line to great effect.

Best Sharp Shooting: Charlotte for serving balls ONTO their baseline.

Best Use of Friction: Rachel: The ball was passed super tight, you put topspin on the ball with a roll shot where the ball rolled up the net’s top tape and over for a point!

Best Hit while Falling Backwards: Anna, I still don’t know how you fall backwards and still get so much power into your hits. We’ll keep on working and you’ll be crushing the ball soon!

Best Face Palm Award: Aleyna for serving a ball so high and strong that when she went to pass it, it bounced off of her platform and into her face!

Best Fight Through Traffic Award: Cadence for tracking down errant passes around and through middles, and outsides.

Billiards Award: Aleyna and Rachel. Aleyna hits the ball, but it gets blocked back over and Rachel hits the combo back over!

Best Bridge Kills: Dara and Anna for killing overpasses.

Best Forward Sprawl Saves: Addison and Cadence, the balls were ticketed for the ground, but you were low, got lower and sprawled to make the saves.

Best Short Award: Cadence for backrow tipping the ball over but knowing how to be below the height of the net.

Most Unusual Hit for a Point: Francesca, for forearm passing the ball over… low, with top spin and down for a winner.

Best Run of Determined Serving: Rachel. ‘Nuff said.

Best Change of Serve: Aleyna, for going to exclusive jump serves and DOMINATING! Great job, keep it up.

Best Tracker Impression: Addison for tracking down an errant pass and gets it up so we could get it back over for a point.

Best In-Game Adjustment: Francesca, for seeing a gap in coverage and filling the need.

Best Change in Serve: Ally for serving cross top spin and then hitting a float down the line. They were complete caught by surprise.

Best Hard Serve: Rachel, you served the ball so hard that the passer couldn’t react and it hit her head!

Best Tack Sharp Passing: Just about everyone. Our in-game passing is one of our strengths. It keeps us in the game. Once we get going, I totally am confident about our chances.

Most Amazing Digs: Francesca. I truely don’t know how you do it. Their outsides -crushed- the ball and you manage to get down, shoulders and platform angled for some GREAT digs.

Impress of Kobe Fadeaway: Anna for falling backwards to get a set that was just a little behind you and your powered it over.

Best Bugs Bunny Changeups: Caroline and Ally for very effective tips after strong hits.

Best Mr. T Impression: Dara for hitting the left T.

Best In Game Transition Adjustment: Anna for free ball transitioning faster and faster and faster.

Best Tennis Impression: Aleyna for hitting a backhand winner.

Best Trapeze Impression: Cadence for pushing a ball over, but it hits the top tape and the ball baaaarely trickles over for a point.

Best Tip Pass: Cadence for covering a short ball that was ticketed for the ground and sending up a perfect pass for Rachel to set.

Best Self Combo: Aleyna for making a perfect pass, then hitting the ball middle-middle for a point.

The most impressive thing that I saw on Satuday: You. We hit some adversity yesterday, but you stuck with your teammates. I’ve seen teams fall apart from tournaments like this, but you kept it together. THE Most Impressive Thing is your character.

Best Pegging the Setter: Aleyna and Ally for hitting the setter and they were forced to hit free balls.

Best Omega Serve: Charlotte for serving and hitting the end line.

Jordan Hasay Award: Ashlyn for having the longest run of serves at 9.

Best Wow Hit: Dara, you were falling back, then you took a swing and that ball seemed to take off, but landed in the back 5′ of the court for a kill.  Very nicely done!

Best Cool Cucumber Tacks: Charlotte and Addison for taking the majority of the balls that were hit to us and giving our setters a chance to get to them AND doing it with aplomb.

Best Candy Restaurant Waitress Impression: Caroline for a sweet, sweet tip kill.

Best “I Got This”: Addison for passing and then being ready to hit the ball.

Best Miracle Save: Caroline, that ball was ticketed to the ground and you dove and got under it for a miracle save!

Don’t Bet Against Us Award: Everyone!  We can and will come back against most anyone.

Defeated Newton Award: Ally for hitting the ball down from the 10′ line.  I’m not sure how you altered Physics, but you were able to get that ball down from what seems like an impossible angle.

Best Adjustments on Defense: Addison, Charlotte and Francesca: Last tournament it was difficult to pick up some balls because we weren’t in a good position to make the plays.  We didn’t have a chance to go over that in practice, but today you took to the instruction within the chaos of the match and thrived!  Very, very good.

Best AP Geometry Award: Anna for hitting a hard angle for a clean winner

Mr. Clean Award: Rachel for the cleanest sets. You set such a clean sets that our hitters seem to be hitting off of platters.

Channeling Lilo’s Friend: Cadence for serving the ball so very hard, that the players who were supposed to get it Twitched away from the ball.

Best Snooker award: Addison for hitting the ball in the deep left corner for a clean winner.

Best Deep Adjustment: Aleyna, I’ve been asking you to hit the angles and corners. You hit straight middle and they picked it up, then you hit right angle for a winner. Great adjustment.

Best short ball coverage: Francesca and Caroline on different occasions, the ball was short, short, short and you got into position, sent up perfect passes.

Best Block with an Attitude: Dara, you blocked the ball DOWN and then showed us the ‘tude that middles need.

Best Slide Rule Impression: Caroline, for making such difficult floating left approach adjustments AND hitting with power. One of the other coaches thought they were all going into the net.

Best Top Spin hits: Ally, just wow, keep on hitting it and you’ll be unstoppable!

Block Party: Anna, Aleyna, Caroline for keeping their hits on their side.

Mohs Scale 10 Serves: Ashlyn for hitting the most difficult serves to return.

Best Ballet Dancer Impression: Rachel for racing to the net, tipping the ball and then tip toeing on the line to keep out of the net. Great body control!

Best Setter Combo: Rachel and Cadence. Cadence passed the ball, Rachel looked, saw a spot and tipped it in for a kill.

Best Solo Combo: Ally and Ally. Ally dove for the ball, but it went over the net, CJVA saw the opportunity and attempted to catch you lazing on the floor, but you had gotten right up and passed it perfectly to our setter.

Best Hitting Adjustment: Francesca, you had hit the ball into the net, then you made the mental adjustment and never did it again. That is perfect!

Best 9 Ball Player Impression: Cadence for starting the match off with 9 straight points.

Best Sniper Impression: Charlotte for serving and hitting the back line. It is unusual for someone to serve and hit the back line, you seem to do it regularily. Keep it up!

Dorothy Poynton award: Rachel for best diving save. Just wow. That ball was ticketed to the ground and you got your arms and body under the ball and got it up! Great job!

Best 18 Wheeler Award: Everyone! For running and trailing your teammates when they went to get a shanked ball. This is the embodiment of Team. For example, a ball was shanked, Francesca sprints back to the dividing net, with everyone trailing, gets the ball up and Cadence gets the ball back over. Great job everyone! then there was the dive into the stands. Then there was the dive into our opponents’ parents!

Best Tack impression: Addison and Charlotte. Great job keeping our team in the game with all of your perfect passing!

Best Waitress: Cadence for tip kills

Mariana Trench award: Caroline for being deeeeeeeep in our court, bumped the 3rd ball over the net, for a kill.

Best Make them Blink award: Ashlyn for hitting the ball so, very hard that they shut their eyes because they were afraid of your hit!

Best HIt that Confused the Blocker: Caroline for hitting the ball, but the blocker was late, who then block the ball down… onto their side.

Turkey Award: Cadence earns the 2nd turkey ever awarded! Excellent.

Best Imitation of a Roof: Dara, for putting up blocks and forcing the other teams to adjust their hits.

Best Imitation of an WWE Wrestler: Rachel, for tracking down a shanked ball and nearly taking out the scorer’s table at the same time. While I appreciate the effort, next time, please stop before the really hard surface. (Rule #1)

Best In Game Adjustments: Rachel, Cadence, Charlotte and Addison. Our setter 1st ball passing was a little chaotic, so, we figured out our strategy, made our adjustments and the final product was that actually ran plays from our libero setting.

Best Houdini Impression: The ball was hit onto our side, our pass was about 7 feet high and heading towards the net, too far away from the setter, but Aleyna jumped got her hands up and magically set the ball by the skin of her fingertips, bought us just enough time for Dara to put an attack on the ball.

Deep Corner, 5 points serve: Anna, for hitting the serve high, deep an right square into the deep right corner. If it were up to me, it would be 5 points.

Best Pass Past Torso: Charlotte, the hit was so hard and it had already past your body, but you stuck your platform out and sent up a perfect pass!

Longest Run of Serves: Rachel for serving 10 in a row.

Best Almost Chicken, Turkey Award: Cadence, Ashlyn for serving 2 in a row for many serves. Almost got them… you’ll get them next time!

Cucumber Award: Francesca, NYC Juniors best server was up, she had been picking us apart, and then she served you. Cool as a cucumber, you set your platform and passed from your left, across the court for a perfect pass.

Best Sphere: Caroline, for being the best all around player. Good Solid Play.

Billiard Award: Cadence and Aleyna for the best 1-2 combination, where Cadence got the first ball, and set it to Aleyna who, hit it down for a point!

Best Imitation of Dwayne Johnson: Addison for playing a strong game, for being a Rock for our team.

Best Mariano Rivera Impression: Ashlyn for closing out matches with aces. Great job!

Best Protractor Impression: Dara, Aleyna for hitting balls at almost impossible angles which landed within 2′!

Best Float Serves that went out: Cadence. You consistently hit these AWESOME float serves that just. barely. went wide right. Just a measly 12 inches to the left, would have resulted in aces. The potential is there, we all saw it. We’ll harness this power.

Best impression of a Tack: Charlotte and Addison for Tack Sharp passing.

Best Block Party: Francesca, Aleyna, Anna, Dara for putting up blocks and keep us in the game.

Best Pass Hit Combination: Ally, for breaking their best server, then transitioning and THEN hitting the ball deep corner.

Best UnConventional Kill: Anna, for best bump kill. A difficult ball came over and you passed it over the net, but in the perfect spot, for a kill!

Best Serving Adjustments: Ally and Ashlyn. I asked you to change your serve to take advantage of your strengths and you implemented the changes with great results.

Best Nose for the Ball: Cadence. We were in chaos. The ball was coming down. You ran AROUND Dara from the right, and passed the ball up from her LEFT knee for someone to hit the ball over. Just wow.

Da Crusha Award: Francesca for Crushing several sets late in Saturday’s matches.

Breaking Rule #1 Serves: Francesca and Cadence. Both of you served extremely low, hard and flat serves, that our opponents shanked them… INTO their teammates’ head. They just couldn’t react fast enough.

Best 2 Handed Putter Downer: Dara, for strong play at the net by rejecting their balls w/ both hands!

Best Impression of Gandolf: Aleyna. They overpassed the ball and you channeled your inner Gandolf and said “You shall not pass” and hit the ball back over.

Best Wonder Woman Impression: Charlotte for flying like Wonder Woman into the chairs to track down a shanked pass.

Best Math Homework: Caroline for having the highest hitting and serving percentage! This is SUPER! A+

Best Stressball Impression: Aleyna, hit a ball down, middle middle, and it squishes the passer. She just couldn’t get the ball into the air.

Best Impression of a Construction Vehicle: Cadence for the best setter dump.

Best Top Spin Serves: Rachel and Ally. ‘Nuff Said

Best Duck Impression: Anna and Addison. In each of your situations, a ball was coming right at you, but you knew it was out, so you ducked out of the way and sure enough the balls went by for our points. Good job, nice court awareness.

Best Difficult Geometry Award: Ashlyn. Their outside was off the court and puts a hit on the ball, extreme hard angle, but you read the hit and angle and put up a perfect pass.

Best Fish Hit: Charlotte for taking control of a ball that was deep on our side and hit the ball that skimmed the top of the net. This was part of a series where you got progressively better in hitting those balls. Way to keep working on getting better within the game.

Best Falling Away Hit: Ally, the ball was set behind you, and you back pedaled… back pedaled and hit the ball, with strength into their corner for the attack.

Best Alarm Clock: Jules.   After sleepwalking through the first part of the first match on Saturday by missing 4 of 5 serves,  Jules came up and pounded some serves and we never looked back!

Best Evil Serving : Dena (a.k.a. DeadPool).  O. M. G. You hit her in the head!!!

Best Non Setter Set: Julia.  Just perfect. Best Block Party: Jordyn, Kristina, Jules. Way to get your arms up and the ball down.

Best Adjustment on Passing : Nicole,  after getting beat on a top side serve,  you never let her beat you again. 

Best Use of a Block: Jolie. Knowing that the block was there,  you hit it harder and forced us to get the point! Way to make her feel like a used handkerchief. 

Best Split: Dena need I say more? 

Best Fight Through a Screen : Jules.   After Kristina’s first block, the ball was still Live!   Jules had the calm frame of mind to go around her and get the ball up.

Best Rock Impression (offense) : Nicole,  For being available,  in position and ready to put a credible attack on the ball.

Best Middle Swipe: Camilla: The set was there, but there were huge blockers in front of you, so you swiped at the ball and hit it around the block for a point!

Best Joanna Li Impression: The action was happening in our front-right section and was about to fall in, when Elsie flashed from back left… got the ball up… and then got back into position!  Way to anticipate the action and react.

Best Deep Corner: Nicole.  Hit a perfectly placed ball in deep left corner out of the reach of a diving libero.

Best Rock Impression (defense): Victoria.  It is such a comfort to have you in the back row and know that you’ll put a quality hit on the ball.

Best Picking-On-An-Opponent: Jordyn.  Hits #9 when warming up on serve…  same player that Dena had hit on serve.

Best Top Spin Serves: Gabbi.  Keep on hitting those bombing serves!

Best Play off of the Net: Jules.  The pass was shooting towards the net, you patiently waited for the ball to come off and got it up for a credible set.

Best Pure Swings: Kristina.  Be still my heart!

Best Adjustments to Out of System Sets.  Everyone!  We’ll pick up our passing and then we’ll have more in-system plays.

Best Imitation of a Tack: Dena and her run of tack sharp passing.

Best Imitation of a Waitress: Nicole for having the most consistent serving game.

Best Imitation of a Roofer: Camilla for Roofing an overpass

Best Imitation of a Power Hitter in Yankee Stadium: Jordyn for hitting into the Deep Left Corner.

Best Imitation of a Power Hitter in Fenway Park: Elsie for hitting into the Deep Right Corner.

Best Imitation of a Sniper: Kristina for serving into the Deep Left Corner within 4 square feet.  They all yelled OUT.  Then it landed in.  Coach Dorin said “That was a killer”

Best Getting Short: Victoria and Dena.  Laying out 100%! Getting floor burn and many bruises.  Doing all of the dirty work to get our team a chance to get a point.

Best Creating Bad Language: Camilla.  The ball was coming over, Camilla hit it to our left.  The opposing setter said Oh F*** because she was going in the wrong direction.

Best Improvement throughout the day: Gabbi.  You picked up your game as the tournament went along.  You played to your strengths.

Best Imitation of a Bowling Ball: Nicole.  Nicole hit a ball so hard down the line, that 3 of their players were late in getting to the ball.  The weren’t ready for such a hard and well placed shot.

Best Precision Serving: Victoria.  Hard.  Flat.  Between 6 and 1.  They couldn’t handle the first one.  They couldn’t handle the others.  Very Very good.  Welcome back!

Best Hit off of a Non Human set: Kristina. Our second ball was hit the top of the net and bounced up.  Kristina then hit it as if it were a normal tight set!

Best Field Goal Hitter: Jolie.  Consistently hit the ball so hard that it they went inbetween the middle and outside blockers.  Each should have been worth 3 points.

Best Hitting It Harder: Elsie.  I told you to hit it harder and you did.  Then I told you to do it again, and sure enough you hit it harder!  Keep it up!

Last word.  Volleyball is a game of learning and of adjustments.  All day, Jules was dealing with super tight passes and was called for back row attacks to tip them over or joust with the other team.  We talked about it and what to do better next time.  Sure enough the pass was Super Tight, Jules did the textbook move and Completely Used the blocker to get our point.
